A new 160-room Abode Hotel will be the centrepiece of GEOCON’s latest mixed-use project ‘Midnight’ announced today at 92 Northbourne Ave, Braddon in the heart of Canberra.
Midnight will consist of three integrated buildings with the Abode Hotel wrapped around an internal courtyard at the core of the complex. The nine storey project will include 250 private apartments and commercial and retail space on the ground and first levels.
The activated street frontage has been designed to facilitate pedestrian access through the building for transit from the adjacent Eloura Street light rail stop to the Braddon precinct.
GEOCON Managing Director Nick Georgalis said: “This is a hotel for the future. As the light rail rolls out across Canberra over the next few years, people will be able to stay here and go virtually anywhere in Canberra without getting into a car.
“This development is all about maximising the proximity to both the light rail and Braddon which is quickly becoming one of the most exciting social, dining and residential precincts in Australia.
“Having the hotel at the heart of this complex is essential because it sustains an internal dynamic throughout all hours of the day and night, which contributes to the vibrancy and amenity for the inhabitants. Developments where you only have the odd resident coming and going now and then end up like ghost towns.”
The ingenius design has been created by world-renowned architects Fender Katsalidis and OCULUS Urban Planners, the team behind the NewActon precinct and the iconic Nishi building.
Three floors of basement parking will ensure that hotel visitors arriving by car will have no problem finding a park close to the inner city and other shared amenities include a swimming pool, gym, private cabanas and outdoor kitchen facilities.
Set below street level to create a sense of enclosure and focus, the main entry to the hotel will sit alongside dining and retail activities.
The hotel fitout will be all self-contained studio apartments, mirroring the successful formula at Abode’s other properties in Woden, Tuggeranong, Narrabundah and Gungahlin.
